Fundacja Immo: a small e-book store for a good cause

Fundacja Immo, part of the IMMOBILE group, sells two e-books, “Z ogrodu na talerz” and “Pomysł na warzywnik”, and puts the proceeds towards a charitable cause. We built it a small Magento store that loads quickly and needs no constant looking after. It has exactly the features needed to sell two files.

Starting point

Two e-books do not need a big store

The store was to sell two e-books: “Z ogrodu na talerz” and “Pomysł na warzywnik”. The proceeds support the foundation's charitable cause, so every zloty spent on running the store is a zloty less for that cause. The requirements were therefore simple: the store had to be fast, take payments, give buyers their files and not need a developer's constant attention. A large catalogue, filters or loyalty schemes had no place here. What mattered was that someone who wants to buy an e-book and help along the way could do it without extra steps and without feeling they had landed on a makeshift page.

What we did

Magento trimmed to what the store needs

We built the store on Magento, which we work with every day, and set it up to sell two digital products.

  1. 1

    E-books as downloadable products

We set up both e-books as downloadable products. Buyers do not choose a delivery method because there is nothing to ship, and once the order is paid they get access to the file. That makes the purchase path shorter than in a store selling physical goods.

  2. 2

A simple storefront with two cards

The home page shows both titles straight away, each with a “Show more” button leading to a product page with a description of the e-book and an add to basket button. The green header with the foundation's logo and the small number of elements keep the store calm and easy to take in at a glance.

  3. 3

    Light and cheap to run

We stuck to standard Magento features and left out modules a two-product store does not need. Less code means fewer updates to track and lower upkeep costs. The foundation belongs to the IMMOBILE group, whose Neos websites we also run, so the store has a team on the other end that already knows the group.

Outcome

The store sells e-books and needs little attention

The foundation has its own store where both e-books can be bought in a few steps, and the proceeds support its charitable cause. The store is small and fast because it holds only what selling files requires. We do not quote sales or traffic figures here, because the project was not built for scale. Its job was to let the foundation sell e-books without the costs and chores of a large store.

  • Two e-books on sale
  • Checkout with no delivery step
  • Standard Magento, no unnecessary modules
  • Proceeds support the foundation's cause

A small store for a foundation or social project

If you sell a handful of digital products, we will build a store at that scale: fast, simple to use and cheap to run.
