.mdd – an office furniture manufacturer selling B2B and B2C across Europe and worldwide. Over 400 configurable products and millions of possible variants.
.mdd sells office furniture across Europe and worldwide, B2B and B2C. Each of its 400+ products is configurable, which adds up to millions of possible variants – fabrics, colours, dimensions, accessories. On top of that, every product has a dynamic 3D model, refined by the .mdd team over years, that renders the chosen configuration in real time. A catalogue like that is a challenge both for storefront performance and for the logic that has to price, visualise and assemble any combination correctly. The default Magento 2 storefront could not keep up with the scale of the catalogue and the volume of media, and the standard checkout could not handle configurable products. Add to that a complex integration layer: numerous microservices plus communication with ERP and SAP. .mdd has a strong in-house team, but at this scale it needed extra hands and engineering experience to push the key areas forward without pausing sales.

Laravel We joined the .mdd in-house team as engineering support and have worked side by side with them since 2021. We focused on three fronts: performance of a catalogue with millions of variants, a dedicated checkout on React and Node.js, and the Magento 2 storefront migration to Hyvä – all together with the client's team, in their process and on their code.

Together with the .mdd team we helped straighten out the logic of a catalogue with 400+ configurable products and millions of possible combinations – including dynamic 3D models, refined over years, that render every configuration – so the storefront could cope with the scale and the volume of media.

We helped build a custom checkout (React, Node.js, Remix.js) tailored to configurable products – with sub-second response times even on complex configurations.

We helped move the Magento 2 front end to Hyvä Theme. The storefront got five times faster and holds 80+ in Lighthouse despite heavy product media.

Together with the team we wired up .mdd's many microservices and the communication with ERP and SAP, so data flows consistently between the storefront and the back office.

Since 2021 we have been developing the platform shoulder to shoulder with the .mdd in-house team, delivering one roadmap goal after another.
